Dr Raja Somasuntram Consultant Rehabilitation Medicine MD, FRCP
Dr. Somasuntram is a Consultant Physician & Clinical Lead in Rehabilitation Medicine at Northampton General Hospital.
He specialises in Neurological and Amputee Rehabilitation and has a particular interest in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Stroke Rehabilitation and Spasticity Management.
Dr Somasuntram is an expert in the use of Botulinum toxin (Botox) for managing spasticity in a range of neurological conditions and assessing patients for their suitability for Intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) pump.
He also assesses patients who have dropped-foot due to MS, Stroke etc for their suitability for appropriate splints (Orthoses) and Functional Electrical Stimulator (FES).
He is an expert in assessing patients who have lost their limbs due to diabetes, vascular disease or trauma to appropriate artificial limbs and also advises on management neurogenic and phantom pain.
Dr Somasuntram is a strong believer in Patient-Centred Care and having a Holistic Approach to management of complex neurological conditions, bladder & bowel problems in order to improve the quality of life of people with chronic conditions.
